I haven’t really updated you lately regarding the puppies. I think we have been too damned tired. We still are but there is a light at the end of rhe tunnel. My boyfriend has made a welping box for Lily and the puppies. You can see it on the picture above.
The puppies have come on leaps and bounds. They have all opened their eyes and are now walking. There is a video above showing smokey walking. I bet by weekend they will be running around. We are hoping to leave Lily in with them tonight. We have set up an app on the iPad called Arnold. It’s amazing you can use your iPad as a camera and another phone you can use as a receiver. It’s all done through your google account. It doesn’t matter if your phone is Apple or android. You can use both. We have been tuning in when we have been out of the house. The only problem is only one person at a time can watch the puppies. So we keep logging each other out which is frustrating when I am logged out ha ha. There will be lots of updates as the puppies develop and grow up. They are nearly 3 weeks old and we will keep them until they are between 10-12 weeks old. So we have plenty of memories to make and we can’t wait. There are exciting times ahead. I will check in again with you soon
Lily is finally bonding with her puppies. We muzzled and geld ger first and she has finally relaxed enough to feed them. It is a massive step.
We are shattered. It’s been feeds every 3 hours. It’s more tiring than raising a new born baby. The only difference is we have 3 to look after. We have had a major break through. We held lily and she fed her babies. During the course of the night and day she became more relaxed. We muzzled her and we let he sniff the babies and then tonight we took the muzzle off. We were very close by in case she tried to bite then but her mothering instinct set in and she licked them and cleaned there bottoms. It was amazing and I hope that she now looks after them. I always new she would be a good mum. So fingers crossed.
I am going now as I am shattered and we have an hour and a half to thr next feed. I feel so relieved that lily is finally being a mother.
Ps, I am going to keep a puppy. My boyfriend says no but we are keeping one. Watch this space.
There is great excitement in our house. We think the puppies will be here any day. Lily has milk so that is a sign she will be a new mum soon. It’s a nerve racking time. My partner is really stressed with it. I think he is reading up on it too much. He has bought a heat mat today and said that the nursery ( as he calls it) needs to be a 30 degrees. I even caught him putting the heater on yesterday. God knows why. I am not heating the room to 30 degrees when there are no puppies.
He was even up at 6.30 this morning stressing and I have a feeling he will want to sleep down there tonight. I am more calm about this. Maybe it’s cause I am a mum or the fact my cat has kittens a few years ago while I was out. Now that was stressful as I came home to a kitten on my daughters floor with no sign of the cat. I wrapped it in a towel and eventually found the cat in my sons wardorbe with 6 more kittens,
I will update you daily on the puppy situation and fingers crossed we have some good news soon.
I have a new you tube channel as I am struggling uploading videos on here. They will mainly be videos of the dogs and the stupid things that they do. Have a look. I only have one video on at the moment but I am going to add to it. It’s called blogofanoverthinker. The video is called lily the Puggle killing her new toy. Subscribe to it so you can see some new videos especially the puppies when they are born
We have estimated that lily is approximately 6- 7 weeks pregnant. Apparently it is difficult to tell whether a dog is pregnant much before that. She has enlarged teats. She tends to get these after she has been on heat usually so that is why we were unsure that she was pregnant. Lily’s mannerisms haven’t changed much. She has always been quite a clingy dog and likes to spend time with us.
Dogs are typically pregnant for 9 weeks so we do not have long to go. We are clearing out the back room, which we use as a dumping ground as a nursery for the puppies. I am back at work on Thursday after my back operation but only working mornings so hopefully we will be around when Lily goes into labour.
We have done quite a bit of reading on the subject. Dogs suffer from morning sickness. Lily has had a bit of a wet mouth, I think that is maybe down to her mouth watering as she felt sick. Other than that we have nothing to report. I will update my blog as soon as we have any more news.
